Canadian retail sales show strong rise

(July 23, 2015) -- Nominal retail sales in May 2015 rose by a robust 1.0 percent following a 0.1 percent decline in April. Market expectations had been for a modest 0.5 percent gain, RBC Economics reported. A key upward surprise was the motor vehicle component, which rose by 1.3 percent.
