Forest crews typically prepare the all-terrain vehicle, utility-terrain vehicle, horse and bike trails throughout the month of April in order to open on May 1, and campgrounds to open on May 2; however, the conditions haven’t been favorable in order to remove hazard trees, clean campsite pads and prepare water systems. Canyon de Chelly National Monument in Arizona is definitely off the beaten path, but it’s worth the extra time to see its wonders. The monument boasts three main sandstone canyons, Canyon de Chelly (pronounced “de-shay”), Canyon del Muerto and Monument, and are all worth seeing firsthand as they are full of hundreds of archaeological sites including ruins of former dwellings, petroglyphs and pictographs. Admission is free with a non-perishable food donation for Fulfill, formerly the FoodBank of Monmouth and Ocean County. This year’s goal is to exceed seven thousand pounds of non-perishable food donations in lieu of admission. Source
