First quarter GDP comes in at 2.5 percent

(April 26, 2013) -- The first estimate of first quarter annualized GDP growth of 2.5 percent represents a marked improvement from the 0.4 percent gain in the fourth quarter of 2013, though it compared to expectations of a stronger 3.0 percent increase, RBC Economics reported today. The main downward surprise was another sizable drop in government spending of 4.1 percent. 

Interior Secretary underscores importance of youth

(April 26, 2013) -- Secretary of the Interior Sally Jewell joined National Park Service Director Jonathan B. Jarvis and students from Stonewall Middle School at Prince William Forest Park to celebrate National Park Week and highlight the importance of outdoor recreation and education, especially to young people. Jewell also held a stakeholder meeting to explore ways to leverage public-private partnerships at national parks to better connect youth and families to nature and outdoor recreation – one of the major goals of President Obama’s America’s Great Outdoors initiative – and to promote economic growth and support jobs in local communities.

Woman slips in bathroom, sues Louisiana

(April 26, 2013) -- The Louisiana Record says a lawsuit accuses the State of Louisiana of failing to regularly maintain and inspect the bathroom area on the property, failing to timely inspect and repair the bathroom floor area, failing to warn of the danger and allowing a dangerous condition to exist after proper or constructive notice.
