Judge rules motorists can’t use handheld maps in CA

(April 11, 2013) -- When Steven Spriggs was stopped in a traffic jam near downtown Fresno, he turned on his smartphone and clicked on the map feature to see if there was an alternate route around the construction mess, Fox News reported. A California Highway Patrol motorcycle officer saw him with the device in his hand and gave Spriggs a $160 ticket for "distracted driving" while sitting at a standstill on the freeway.
