Initial jobless claims fall by 3,000

(Sept. 20, 2012) -- Initial unemployment insurance claims slipped just 3,000 to a higher-than-expected 382,000 in the week ending Sept. 15, 2012. This retraced little of an 18,000 jump to an upwardly revised 385,000 level the previous week. The four-week moving average of initial claims rose for a fifth consecutive week by climbing to 377,750 from 375,750 the previous week.

California foundation releases Park Observation Program

(Sept. 19, 2012) -- The California State Parks Foundation announced the release of its new “Park Observation Program” (POP) so that park users in the Santa Cruz area can report issues they find in state parks. With California’s state parks suffering from budget cuts and a $1.3 billion maintenance backlog, the POP program will give park staff extra resources and support in the field.
