Hunting, fishing on the rise once again

(Aug. 16, 2012) -- The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service’s 2011 National Survey of Fishing, Hunting, and Wildlife-Associated Recreation found that hunters nationwide increased by 9 percent while anglers grew by 11 percent. Nearly 38 percent of all Americans participated in wildlife-related recreation in 2011, an increase of 2.6 million participants from the previous survey in 2006. They spent $145 billion on related gear, trips and other purchases.

Canadian woman cooks dog in cage on campfire

(Aug. 16, 2012) -- Debra Holden, 53, of Fort St. John, B.C., faces two counts of injuring or endangering animals and two counts of causing animals unnecessary suffering after police found a dead dog and kennel burning on a campfire and witnesses said another burned dog ran into the woods, the Edmonton Journal reported. 

Explosion rocks Texas RV park

(Aug. 16, 2012) -- Police said that a large amount of meth and firearms were found in a travel trailer at Shamrock RV Park along with a cache of ammunition and drug paraphernalia. A road leading to the park was shut down for four hours to allow the bomb squad to collect the explosives, KAMR reported. One person was injured in the explosion. 

Cougar attacks boy at B.C. campground

(Aug. 16, 2012) -- The attack occurred around 8:30 p.m. while his family was camping near Sproat Lake. His parents were cooking when they heard their son cry. On seeing the cougar holding his son in its mouth, the boy's father hit the animal and it dropped the boy, CBC News reported. 

Crane Composites supports local charities

(Aug. 16, 2012) -- Crane Company Philanthropic Organizations donated more than $20,000 to three local charities this month. Actively involved in charities year round, Crane Composites made a donation Aug. 1  to the United Way and the Salvation Army in Elkhart County, Ind. A donation was also made to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society-Indiana State Chapter, located in Indianapolis, Ind.
