Silver City open for tourists despite fires

(June 12, 2012) -- "The news does this to us every year," Kydd said. "I've called the New Mexico Tourism Department and the Chamber of Commerce. People need to realize the Gila is huge and we are not affected here. We're really far east of the fire and it's just a little bit smoky in the mornings but mostly it's gorgeous here. I sat out and watched the stars until 11 o'clock last night. The fishing is unbelievable. The lake is beautiful. Nothing is closed here."
