(March 15, 2013) -- Take Pride in America Day, a nationwide effort to encourage volunteers to improve parks, lakes and wildlife areas, is scheduled for May 4 at Verdon Lake State Recreation Area (SRA) in Richardson County, Neb.

(March 15, 2013) -- A group of Washington D.C. area activist led by Alan Cohen, the president of Safe Lawns for DC Kids and Critters, and Beyond Pesticides delivered a petition to the National Park Service that urges officials to stop the seasonal spraying of Rodeo, a glyphosat-based herbicide, to control for fig buttercup in Rock Creek Park in the D.C. metropolitan area.

(March 15, 2013) -- The first gray whales heading northward on their annual spring migration have already been spotted from the Oregon State Parks Whale Watching Center in Depoe Bay, Ore. Many more gray whales will be migrating soon -- just in time for the upcoming Spring Whale Watching Week, which starts Saturday, March 23.

(March 14, 2013) -- To motivate dogs and their human companions to get more exercise, the Georgia Veterinary Medical Association (GVMA) has partnered with Georgia’s State Parks to encourage healthy walks in the woods. Through the new Pets RXercise program, veterinarians can give their canine patients a “prescription” to visit a Georgia State Park. The prescription is redeemed for free parking, which is normally $5. Park admission is free and there is no fee for hiking on trails.

(March 14, 2013) -- The Memphis Daily News reports the company that owns the old Memphis Mobile City mobile home park wants to turn the site that flooded seven times in 10 years including floods in 2010 and 2011 into a resort for recreational vehicles with cabins and manufactured homes on adjoining acreage.

(March 14, 2013) -- In Washington, Mo., Darren Lamb, community and economic development director, is quoted in The Missourian saying a new city plan suggests the city should “explore” developing an RV park because of the requests for one that have been heard over the years.

(March 14, 2013) -- RV campers who want a spot at Fort Getty in Jamestown, R.I. this summer may be in luck. The Jamestown Press reports Recreation Director Bill Piva told the Town Council at its March 7 meeting that the trailer park has 21 vacancies.
