EDITOR’S NOTE: The following is a guest post by Scott Wilkes, owner of the RV Levitator.
When the founders of RV Levitator set out on their travel journey, they weren’t looking to start a business—they were looking for freedom. Like many full-time RVers, they left behind the routines of traditional life in search of flexibility, adventure, and a chance to reconnect with what really mattered: family, nature, and simplicity.

What began as a personal adventure gradually turned into something bigger. Along the way, they ran into the kind of everyday problems that every RVer faces — and one of those problems gave them an idea. They didn’t have investors, a product launch plan, or much business experience. What they did have was determination, creativity, and plenty of trial and error.
Launching RV Levitator quickly became one of the most difficult parts of their RV lifestyle. Not because they doubted the product — but because nearly every system seemed stacked against small startups.
Banks required high minimum balances and charged fees when they couldn’t maintain them. Facebook groups, which they had hoped would be a supportive space for a small American business, often removed their posts if they included a store link — while big brands were allowed to post links freely.
Then came Amazon. As shoppers, they’d assumed listing a product would be simple: upload some photos, write a description, and wait for the orders to roll in. In reality, it was a maze of backend settings, compliance requirements, advertising algorithms, and frustrating account holds. There was no instruction manual — just a lot of expensive lessons.
But they stuck with it.
Their persistence eventually paid off. The product they developed — the Levitator (RV Sewer Hose Support) is now helping RVers solve the same frustrating sewer hose issues they once faced. It’s rugged, compact, and works on any terrain — because that’s exactly what they needed when they were deep in the boondocks trying to get a proper setup.
They’re still learning and still refining. Like many small business owners, they continue to navigate the quirks of building something from the ground up in a big-brand world. But they’re proud of what they’ve created — and how they’ve created it: with grit, honesty, and support from the RV community.
For any RVer dreaming about launching something of their own: the road ahead may be tough, but it’s also incredibly rewarding. Your ideas matter, your story matters, and there’s a community out here cheering you on.
