$8M Streetscape Project Should ‘Drive Business’ in Elkhart

ELKHART, Ind. –With the aim of reshaping the city’s western gateway and improving the experience for millions of annual visitors, the city of Elkhart on Monday, June 16, officially unveiled an $8 million streetscape project at Exit 92 off the Indiana Toll Road, according to a report by Inside Indiana Business.

City council members, development partners and local stakeholders joined Mayor Rod Roberson at the unveiling to celebrate what officials described as a long-term investment in Elkhart’s infrastructure and identity.

The major infrastructure upgrade introduces extensive landscaping, updated signage, pedestrian pathways and two new park spaces to one of the busiest traffic corridors in Elkhart.

The area sees over 7 million annual vehicle trips along Cassopolis Street and about 1.86 million annual trips utilizing the Exit 92 ramps, according to city estimates.

Retail Sales Slide After a Spending Surge to Beat Tariffs

WASHINGTON — Retail sales fell sharply in May as consumers pulled back from a spending surge early this year to get ahead of President Donald Trump’s sweeping tariffs on nearly all imports, according to an Associated Press report.

Sales at retail stores and restaurants dropped 0.9% in May, the Commerce Department said Tuesday, after a decline of 0.1% in April. The figure was pulled down by a steep drop in auto sales, after Americans ramped up their car-buying in March to get ahead of Trump’s 25% duty on imported cars and car parts. Excluding autos, sales fell 0.3%.

The sales drop is hitting after sharp declines in consumer confidence this year. Still, inflation has cooled steadily and unemployment remains low, which could fuel steady spending in the coming months, as the economy has remained mostly solid.

A category of sales that excludes volatile sectors such as gas, cars, and restaurants rose last month by 0.4%, a sign that consumers are still spending on some discretionary items.

Overall, the report suggests consumers have pulled back a bit but not dramatically so. The retail sales report covers about one-third of consumer spending, with the other two-thirds consisting of spending on services. Economists expect overall consumer spending to grow in the April-June quarter.

National Go RVing Day Promotion Said to be Big Success

This past weekend, companies from across the RV industry used National Go RVing Day as an opportunity to get consumers excited to go RVing, according to a News & Insights report by the RV Industry Association (RVIA). From campground giveaways to discounts on RVs to consumers sharing the benefits of RVing, social media platforms FacebookInstagram, and TikTok were flooded with positive RV posts.

To further put RVing in front of consumers, Go RVing sponsored a contest in conjunction with the new “Just Beyond Your Door” campaign encouraging contestants to share their ideal RV getaway when entering. The contest was promoted in the weeks leading up to National Go RVing Day and garnered over 12 million impressions and 6 million video views. Forbes also included the contest in their list of top summer trip giveaways

Just ahead of National Go RVing Day, Rachel Engen of Colorado was announced as the winner of the contest, an announcement that had a potential reach of over 170 million. Rachel shared that she was drawn to the idea of RV travel because, “this would make traveling with the kiddos and all our bikes and paddle boards way easier!” Many other contestants also shared their dreams of traveling with children, pets, and friends.

“We are incredibly happy that so many companies have embraced National Go RVing Day as a powerful platform to get RVing in front of RVers and future RVers,” said Monika Geraci, Go RVing’s Senior Director of PR & Communication. “The collective effort of the industry truly amplified the message of the RV lifestyle and its attainability, reaching millions and sparking excitement for future adventures.”

Be sure to mark your calendars for next year’s National Go RVing Day, taking place on June 13, 2026.

Fed in Limbo as Tariffs Complicate Current Rate Decision

WASHINGTON (AP) — The U.S. economy is mostly in good shape but that isn’t saving Federal Reserve chair Jerome Powell from a spell of angst, according to an Associated Press report.

As the Fed considers its next moves during a two-day meeting this week, most economic data looks solid: Inflation has been steadily fading, while the unemployment rate is still a historically low 4.2%. Yet President Donald Trump’s widespread tariffs may push inflation higher in the coming months, while also possibly slowing growth.

With the outlook uncertain, Fed policymakers are expected to keep their key interest rate unchanged on Wednesday at about 4.4%. Officials will also release a set of quarterly economic projections that are expected to show inflation will accelerate later this year, while unemployment my also tick up a bit.

The projections may also signal that the Fed will cut its key rate twice later this year, economists say.

Floor Plan Financing Provision Included in Senate Tax Bill

As the federal tax legislation package continues to move through Congress, the critical floor plan provision is still in the Senate Finance Committee’s markup of the bill. The provision was secured earlier this year in the House version of the bill, according to a News & Insights report by the RV Industry Association (RVIA).

Thanks to the leadership of Sens. Joni Ernst (R-IA), Angus King (I-ME), Todd Young (R-IN), Jim Banks (R-IN), and Chuck Grassley (R-IA), the bill includes a fix to a longstanding flaw in the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act. Specifically, it restores full deductibility of floor plan interest for all RV dealers — not just those selling motorhomes. Correcting this drafting error has been one of the RV industry’s top federal priorities.

The reconciliation bill includes a key provision titled “Floor plan financing applicable to certain trailers and campers,” which adds travel trailers to the modified business interest deduction formula — delivering long-overdue parity for RV dealers.

“We’ll continue to drive this critical policy victory forward for the RV industry as the bill moves through the Senate and back to the House this summer,” the RVIA report added.
