RVIA Standards Dept. Attends Dometic Technical Training

The RV Industry Association’s (RVIA) Standards department attended a recent technical training class presented by Dometic Corporation, a supplier member, to enhance their product-specific knowledge, according to an RVIA News & Insights report. This helps the Standards department provide accurate information to member manufacturers in the field during inspections and discussions.

RVIA’s Standards staff were provided with technical overviews of Dometic’s latest products and systems regarding furnaces, refrigerators, air conditioning units, and water heaters. In addition to learning the specifics through technical overviews, staff were also trained in the proper installation and troubleshooting of the appliances that were presented.

Five experienced Dometic product experts guided the training alongside the lead instructor  to address all questions from attendees.

The Standards department maintains a professional team of full-time inspectors that promote the enhancement of safety by monitoring adherence to the standards. The team conducts more than 2,000 unannounced inspections of member company RV manufacturing plants annually and provides educational resources and hands-on training to manufacturer members. RVIA inspectors walk every station along the production line, spot checking representative RV units for compliance with over 500 safety-related standards requirements and conducting hands-on discussions about these standards.

RVIA Standards department would like to thank Dometic for the time and expertise that were put into the training. The information presented will be highly beneficial to the Standards department’s inspectors, as RVIA continues to work tirelessly to support and educate its members on standards compliance and, ultimately, ensure that consumers have a safe and positive RV experience.

Consumer Confidence Rebounds After 5 Months of Declines

WASHINGTON (AP) — Americans’ views of the economy improved in May after five straight months of declines sent consumer confidence to its lowest level since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, largely driven by anxiety over the impact of President Donald Trump’s tariffs, according to an Associated Press report.

The Conference Board said Tuesday that its consumer confidence index rose 12.3 points in May to 98, up from April’s 85.7, its lowest reading since May 2020.

A measure of Americans’ short-term expectations for their income, business conditions and the job market jumped 17.4 points to 72.8, but remained below 80, which can signal a recession ahead.

The proportion of consumers surveyed saying they think a U.S. recession is coming in the next 12 months also declined from April.

Trump’s aggressive and unpredictable policies — including massive import taxes — have clouded the outlook for the economy and the job market, raising fears that the American economy is headed toward a recession.

However, Trump’s tariff pullbacks, pauses and negotiations with some trading partners may have calmed nerves for the time being.

“The rebound was already visible before the May 12 US-China trade deal but gained momentum afterwards,” said Stephanie Guichard, senior economist at The Conference Board.
