AAA: Gas Prices Creep Upward Amid Rise in Demand

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The national average for a gallon of regular is slightly higher than a week ago and 5 cents higher than a month ago. An increase in demand – as the weather gets nicer and more people get out and about – is pushing prices up slightly. But at $3.17, the national average remains well below what drivers were paying this time last year. That’s because the price of crude oil is on the lower side at $62 a barrel compared to $82 a barrel one year ago.

  • Today’s National Average:  $3.171
  • One Week Ago: $3.167
  • One Month Ago: $3.127
  • One Year Ago: $3.660

According to new data from the Energy Information Administration (EIA), gasoline demand increased from 8.46 million b/d last week to 9.41. Total domestic gasoline supply decreased from 234.0 million barrels to 229.5. Gasoline production increased last week, averaging 10.1 million barrels per day.

Oil Market Dynamics

At the close of Wednesday’s formal trading session, WTI fell $1.40 to settle at $62.27 a barrel. The EIA reports that crude oil inventories increased by 0.2 million barrels from the previous week. At 443.1 million barrels, U.S. crude oil inventories are about 5% below the five-year average for this time of year.

EV Charging

The national average per kilowatt hour of electricity at a public EV charging station stayed the same this past week at 34 cents.

State Stats

Gas

The nation’s top 10 most expensive gasoline markets are California ($4.80), Hawaii ($4.51), Washington ($4.28), Oregon ($3.92), Nevada ($3.87), Alaska ($3.64), Illinois ($3.42), Arizona ($3.37), Pennsylvania ($3.35), and Idaho ($3.32).

The nation’s top 10 least expensive gasoline markets are Mississippi ($2.68), Oklahoma ($2.71), Texas ($2.74), Louisiana ($2.75), Alabama ($2.78), Tennessee ($2.79), South Carolina ($2.80), Arkansas ($2.80), Kentucky ($2.83), and Kansas ($2.83).

Electric

The nation’s top 10 most expensive states for public charging per kilowatt hour are Hawaii (55 cents), Alaska (47 cents), West Virginia (47 cents), Montana (45 cents), South Carolina (44 cents), Tennessee (43 cents), Kentucky (42 cents), Idaho (42 cents), Louisiana (41 cents), and Georgia (40 cents).

The nation’s top 10 least expensive states for public charging per kilowatt hour are Kansas (22 cents), Missouri (25 cents), Iowa (27 cents), Delaware (28 cents), Nebraska (28 cents), Utah (29 cents), Texas (30 cents), Maryland (30 cents), Vermont (31 cents), and North Carolina (31 cents).

RecNation Continuing its Growth Across Key U.S. Markets

RecNation, a provider of specialized vehicle storage solutions, is expanding its footprint across key U.S. markets to better serve the growing need for secure storage of RVs, boats, trucks, trailers, fleet equipment, commercial vehicles, and contractor equipment. The company currently operates facilities in strategic locations including Florida, Texas, California, South Carolina, Missouri, Arizona, Tennessee, and Kansas, according to a press release.

Demand for dedicated vehicle storage has surged, driven by increased recreational vehicle ownership, outdoor travel trends, and the storage needs of commercial fleets and contractors. As more consumers invest in RVs, boats, and specialty vehicles, the need for properly equipped storage facilities continues to grow. RecNation has responded by offering solutions tailored specifically for large recreational and commercial vehicles.

“With more Americans investing in outdoor recreation, the need for specialized storage remains high,” said Gary Wojtaszek, founder and CEO of RecNation. “Traditional self-storage facilities are not equipped for RVs, boats, or large commercial vehicles. Our mission continues to be providing secure, convenient storage across our nationwide locations.”

RecNation offers three types of storage: fully enclosed indoor units that shield vehicles from weather, covered spaces offering overhead protection, and open lots that provide a cost-effective parking solution. These options accommodate a range of vehicles, including RVs, boats, trailers, ATVs, trucks, and commercial fleets.

The company also serves businesses with growing storage needs, particularly for contractor equipment, fleet vehicles, truck parking, and other industrial outdoor storage requirements. Its facilities are designed to support both individual vehicle owners and commercial operators looking for scalable, reliable storage options.

“We understand the challenges businesses face in securing reliable storage solutions,” Wojtaszek said. “Our facilities offer dedicated storage designed to meet the diverse needs of recreational users and commercial operators.”

Beyond storage, RecNation provides services such as mobile RV and boat repairs, vehicle cleaning, and managed rental programs that allow customers to earn income from their stored vehicles. These services set the company apart from traditional storage providers.

Security remains a core feature of RecNation’s operations. Locations are equipped with 24-hour surveillance, controlled gate access, and perimeter fencing. Facilities are strategically positioned near major highways, recreational destinations, and commercial hubs for easy access.

Many of RecNation’s locations are based in regions with strong outdoor recreation activity, such as Texas and Florida. The facilities offer essential storage for owners who lack space at home or in their communities.

“Our goal is delivering a seamless and secure storage experience for every customer,” Wojtaszek said. “Whether storing a boat for the offseason, an RV between trips, or commercial fleets, convenience and security remain our top priorities.”

RecNation’s continued growth also aligns with broader investor interest in the industrial outdoor storage (IOS) sector—a space designed specifically for larger vehicles and equipment, distinct from conventional self-storage. As this niche gains traction, RecNation is positioning itself to meet rising demand across both consumer and commercial markets.

Currently operating nearly 70 locations nationwide, the company is actively pursuing new acquisition opportunities to strengthen its position in the specialized storage industry. “The strong market demand reinforces our ongoing strategy,” Wojtaszek said. “We remain committed to enhancing our footprint and serving more customers across new and existing regions.”

Indiana Senate Axes Camping Ban from Unsafe Buildings Bill

INDIANAPOLIS – Indiana lawmakers removed a controversial public camping ban from an unrelated piece of legislation in a conference committee Thursday, citing a Senate relevancy rule. But, they warned, it could come back, according to a report by Taylor Wooten in the Indiana Business Journal.

House Bill 1662 would have made camping on public property a misdemeanor offense, but its author, Rep. Michelle Davis, R-Whiteland, chose not to call the bill down by the House’s mid-February deadline, essentially killing the legislation.

Then, earlier this month, members of the House quickly amended language similar to that of HB 1662 into Senate Bill 197, prompting some lawmakers and advocates for the homeless to voice concerns about the lack of public notice regarding the change.

This week, the Senate dissented to the House’s changes and sent the bill into conference committee.

Sen. Aaron Freeman, R-Indianapolis, who authored SB 197, told the committee Thursday that none of the House’s changes would stay in the legislation, citing the Senate’s germaneness rule, which prohibits any amendments or changes that are not relevant to the bill’s intent. Since SB 197 focused on civil penalties related to unsafe buildings, the House’s changes have been axed, he said.

Freeman announced the decision at the start of the conference committee, indicating that the caucus had slashed the language behind closed doors. He warned that it doesn’t mean the end of the proposal altogether.

“For those playing along, I’m sure it’ll end up in another bill,” Freeman said. “Because if somebody wants it, they’re going to find a home for it. But it will not be in Senate Bill 197.”

E-Van to Debut Composite Body at ACT Expo in California

ELKHART, Ind. – E-Van, the composite body division of Embassy Corporation, will introduce its new Electra-Flex composite van body integrated with a Sevna chassis mounted on an electric chassis designed for the commercial vehicle market.  The E-Van composite body and full vehicle will be featured at Booth 4883 at the upcoming ACT Expo to be held April 28 – May 1 in Anaheim, Calif.

“The E-Van proprietary body provides real world solutions to many of the concerns surrounding the transition of commercial vehicles to EVs.  Lighter weight increases potential range, the composite construction enhances durability and repairability, and the enhanced thermal protection provides greater heating and cooling efficiency,” said Mike Schoeffler, CEO of Embassy.  “With a range of wheelbase options and configurations, we can provide the best body for step vans, work trucks, delivery vans and buses.”

The E-Van Electra-Flex Body provides owners, fleet operators and commercial vehicle dealers with a range of features to meet nearly any potential application:

  • Broad customizable options, accommodating chassis wheel bases ranging from 158” to 208” in body lengths from 15 to 20 feet, resulting in cargo capacity of 669 to 892 cubic feet.
  • Composite construction provides reduced weight and R-10 thermal protection on walls, roof and floor, enhancing operating efficiency and overall vehicle range.
  • Uniform 70” interior height, providing maximum flexibility for use in step vans, work trucks, delivery vans and buses.
  • Custom anchor points are installed into the walls and floor for the broadest range of potential use, including shelving, E-track, tie-downs and more.
  • Available window and door options, including composite rolling door, hung door or solid rear wall to further enhance the range of potential commercial uses.
  • Composite construction provides for enhanced durability and repairability, which is essential for the tough environment where most work vehicles operate.  Damage to the van body can be addressed with a simple fiberglass repair rather than extensive replacements.
  • With overall body weight ranging from 2,250 to 2,950 pounds, the E-Van body provides a lighter weight alternative for commercial vehicles.  When integrated with the Sevna cab, the E-Van is far more aerodynamic than traditional cab over options, enhancing efficiency of operation and EV range.

“The E-Van body is a testament to our engineering and design ability, translating into new products that can make a strong impact in our industry,” said Schoeffler.  “The composite body provides the most flexible, customizable solution for the electrification of commercial vehicle fleets and we look forward to partnering with customers to accelerate this transition.”

RVIA Releases Comprehensive PFAS Guide, Sets Webinar

The RV Industry Association (RVIA) has released its most comprehensive PFAS regulatory guidance to date, “PFAS FAQs for the RV Industry” (see below). This is a must-read for any manufacturer, supplier, importer, or dealer navigating the rapidly expanding patchwork of federal, state, and international PFAS laws, according to an RVIA News & Insights report.

Why It Matters

Per- and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances (PFAS), or “forever chemicals,” are man-made chemicals known for their water, oil, friction resistance, and durability, making them persistent in the environment due to strong carbon-fluorine bonds. Used for decades in various products, PFAS may be found in the RV industry in textiles, carpets, treatments, furnishings, flame retardants, adhesives, solar components, and semiconductors. Federal and state governments are increasingly requiring reports, restrictions, or bans on PFAS use.

In 2024 eight states passed nine bills that are of concern to the RV industry, including Minnesota. We expect more bills to be introduced in 2025.

PFAS FAQs for the RV Industry: An Overview

This document breaks down complex regulatory language into actionable insights and provides clear answers to the most pressing questions impacting your operations. From state-level bans and product category definitions to Canada’s EPA reporting requirements, this FAQ is your frontline defense in preparing for what’s ahead.

What You’ll Learn

  • What PFAS are: Understand the science, definitions, and why they’re being regulated.
  • Federal Requirements (TSCA 8(a)(7)): Who needs to report, when, and what data is required.
  • State-by-State Regulation: Get a breakdown of Minnesota, California, Vermont, Connecticut, and more—plus details on exemptions the RV Industry Association has secured for your business.
  • Canadian Reporting (Canada’s EPA under the Canadian Environmental Protection Act): Learn how to comply with PFAS mandates issued by Environment and Climate Change Canada, including how to participate in the RV Dealers Association of Canada streamlined reporting option.
  • Product Categories & Definitions: Know whether your carpets, textiles, and adhesives are covered.
  • Common Uses in RVs: Identify where PFAS may be hidden in your components—from electronics and refrigerants to gaskets and upholstery.
  • What Happens if You Don’t Report: Fines, recalls, and lost market access are on the line.
  • How to Prepare: Audit supply chains, communicate with suppliers, and join RVIA’s working group to stay ahead of the curve.

PFAS Webinar

Additionally, RVIA is hosting a members-only webinar on Tuesday, April 29, that provides an overview of PFAS regulations and their impact.

Bretz RV Hosts Grand Opening Bash in Liberty Lake, Wash.

LIBERTY LAKE, Wash.— After more than five decades helping families explore the open road, Bretz RV & Marine is making its long-awaited debut in Washington State — and they’re throwing a celebration as big as the adventures they sell, according to a press release.

The family-owned company, which opened its sixth and newest location in Liberty Lake in 2024, will host a grand opening event May 3–4. The dealership is Bretz RV’s first in Washington and brings the company’s signature blend of large-scale inventory, service expertise, and small-town values to the Inland Northwest.

“Opening in Liberty Lake feels like coming home,” said Brandon Bretz, President of Bretz RV & Marine. “We’ve built this store from the ground up with the same care and energy that’s guided us for nearly 60 years. We’re excited to serve the outdoor-loving families of Washington.”

Once slated to become an Amazon Distribution Center, the 40-acre parcel that’s now home to Bretz RV & Marine boasts nearly 80,000 square feet of building space that includes modern showrooms, a full parts department, and a state-of-the-art service center with the area’s most advanced full downdraft paint booth.

“From the time we closed on the property to building completion, it was like running a marathon at sprint speed,” said Vice President of Operations Dustin Bretz. “This project could not have happened without the support of the Liberty Lake community and the leadership in their municipality.”

Employing over 60 people and projecting future economic growth, the grand opening is a celebration for both Bretz and key local partners, including Lisa Key, Liberty Lake Community Development Director, and Walker Construction.

The weekend of events kicks off on Friday, May 3, with a formal ribbon-cutting ceremony at 2:30 p.m., followed by a private VIP Night for customers who have made a purchase from the Liberty Lake store within the past year. The evening will include special recognition of the “100 Club,” honoring the store’s first 100 buyers.

On Saturday, May 4, the event opens to the public with an all-day festival designed for the whole family. Events include:

  • Hosted local food trucks
  • S’mores roasting
  • Live Music
  • Meet-and-greets with regional mascots and storybook princesses
  • Face painting, family games, and fun activities
  • Giveaways and special promotions on RVs and boats

In partnership with Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Inland Northwest, the dealership will also highlight the organization’s Big Match initiative during the event. The goal: to connect 40 children currently waiting for mentors with caring adult role models. Attendees will have the opportunity to learn about the program, meet match coordinators, and explore how they can get involved.

“We believe a great RV or boat can help families make unforgettable memories,” said Brandon. “But just as important is building up the communities we’re part of. Supporting youth mentorship is one way we can do that right here in Liberty Lake.”

Founded in 1967, Bretz RV began as a small service station in Montana. A customer’s simple question — “Why not sell travel trailers?” — launched what would become one of the region’s largest recreational dealerships. Still owned and operated by the Bretz family, the company now spans six locations across Washington, Idaho, and Montana, offering more than 75 RV and boat brands.

About Bretz RV & Marine

Founded in 1967, Bretz RV & Marine is the largest RV and boat dealership in the Pacific Northwest. With deep roots in Montana and a legacy built on family values and customer service, Bretz has grown into a trusted name for recreational enthusiasts across the region.
