4 Out of 5 Campers Plan to Camp in a National Park in ’25

PORTLAND, Ore. – The Dyrt, the only camping app with all of the public and private campgrounds, RV parks, and free camping locations in the United States, has found that four out of five campers plan to camp in a national park in 2025. America’s first national park, Yellowstone, was ranked No. 1 among respondents when asked which parks they were most excited to visit.

These statistics are from the newly released 2025 Camping Report Presented by Toyota Trucks, the most comprehensive look at the latest trends, topics and figures for the U.S. camping industry. The latest version of The Dyrt’s annual report is compiled from the results of surveys conducted with three groups — thousands of members of The Dyrt camper community, a representative sample of U.S. residents, and camping property managers across all 50 states. The surveys were conducted in late 2024 — prior to recent layoffs in the federal government.

“It’s been said that our national parks are national treasures, and I wholeheartedly agree,” says The Dyrt CEO Kevin Long. “Setting up at a campsite amidst the natural wonder, among the native wildlife, staring off into the unchanged landscape — national parks provide an iconic setting for a camping trip.”

Young campers (18-34) are the most likely age group to plan on camping in a national park at 91.7%, followed by 35- to 54-year-olds at 82% and ages 55 and up at 78.9%. But camping in national parks was also the most common answer given by respondents 55 and over when asked about their camping plans for after retirement. Nearly four in five (79.1%) campers said staying in national parks was on their post-career to-do list.

“We’ve been camping in national parks across the country for years, and can’t think of a bad experience,” says The Dyrt camper Tom B. of Washington. “We started out as tent campers and backpackers, and now enjoy national parks with our campervan, ebikes and kayaks as we get on in our 60s. We’ve often been able to get campsites without reservations, but The Dyrt has been invaluable in locating campgrounds in the national parks and providing information about locations and availability. We treasure national parks and the ability to enjoy mostly unspoiled mountains, lakes and trails.”

Following Yellowstone and rounding out the top five for national parks campers are most excited to visit: Glacier, Great Smoky Mountains, Acadia and Yosemite. Great Smoky Mountains National Park had the highest rate of return customers, as 36.2% of campers planning to camp there in 2025 have already done so before. In general, 27.1% of campers planning to camp in a national park this year say they will revisit one they’ve camped in before.

The Shyft Group, Isuzu Announce Expanded Collaboration

NOVI, Mich. — The Shyft Group, Inc. (NASDAQ: SHYF), parent company of Spartan RV Chassis and its Red Diamond aftermarket division and a North American leader in specialty vehicle manufacturing, assembly, and upfit for the commercial, retail, and service markets, today announced the expansion of its close collaboration with Isuzu North America Corporation, positioning Shyft to grow its business and establish new operations near Isuzu’s future production facility in Greenville County, S.C.

Building on more than a decade-long relationship, the expanded collaboration is expected to create new revenue-generating opportunities, including a dedicated upfit and modification center and a new body program tailored for the North American market, according to a company release.

“This next chapter in our collaboration with Isuzu, which began in 2011, not only reaffirms Shyft’s role as a trusted assembly partner but also positions us to expand our capabilities and deliver even greater value to Isuzu and our customers,” said Jacob Farmer, president, Fleet Vehicles & Services and Specialty Vehicles, The Shyft Group. “We are investing in growth—expanding our footprint, advancing new upfit solutions, vehicle bodies, and platforms—that will strengthen our business and drive long-term success for both companies.”

As part of the transition, Shyft will continue assembling key Isuzu vehicle lines, including the N-Series Gas, N-Series EV, and F-Series trucks, at its Charlotte, Michigan, campus throughout the multi-year production ramp-up in Greenville. Shyft’s assembly expertise will also support the planning and launch of the new facility, ensuring production continuity and a smooth transition.

Shyft and Isuzu are also advancing plans to establish Shyft as a long-term upfit and vehicle solutions provider supporting Isuzu’s North American operations. As part of this effort, plans are progressing for Shyft to develop a dedicated upfit and modification center near the Greenville plant, expected to support Port-Installed Options (PIO), final vehicle modifications, and other upfit services for vehicles produced at the site.

Additionally, Shyft is preparing to introduce a new body program designed to meet the needs of the North American market, aligning its manufacturing and upfit capabilities with growing demand for purpose-built commercial vehicle solutions. Further details on the body program will be shared soon.

“Expanding Isuzu’s U.S. production footprint is a pivotal step in our long-term growth strategy,” said Noboru Murakami, president, Isuzu North America Corporation. “We expect that Shyft’s deep assembly and upfit expertise will play a critical role as we build and scale this new production facility, and we value their continued support as we work together to deliver best-in-class commercial vehicles to the North American market.”

Isuzu’s 1,000,000-square-foot Greenville facility will consolidate production, vehicle preparation, and logistics operations under one roof, enhancing efficiency and supporting Isuzu’s North American growth plans. Initial production is expected to begin in 2027, with further expansion in 2028. Once fully operational, the plant will have the capacity to produce up to 50,000 vehicles annually and employ more than 700 people. The transition will be executed gradually to minimize disruptions and ensure a reliable supply of vehicles to customers.

Equal-i-zer Hitch Wins Wildsam Readers’ Choice Gold Award

PROVO, Utah — For the 13th year in a row, trailer owners across America have named the Original Equal-i-zer Sway Control Hitch the Gold Award winner in the travel trailer hitch category. This remarkable achievement makes Equal-i-zer the only hitch to have ever received Wildsam magazine’s prestigious Readers’ Choice Gold Award, according to a release.

“We’re incredibly grateful that trailer owners across the country keep trusting and choosing the Equal-i-zer hitch, This award is a great reminder of how top-notch engineering and American craftsmanship come together to create the safest towing experience out there,” said Deven McCann, Equal-i-zer Hitch sales account manager.

Equal-i-zer’s legacy of innovation and safety has made it the go-to hitch for towing enthusiasts for nearly 80 years. Originally founded in 1945 as Mobile Manufacturing by Ed Hedgepeth, the small Utah company vowed to make a difference in the towing world. Hedgepeth introduced the patented Equal-i-zer hitch in 1951. Since then, it has revolutionized towing safety and performance, consistently setting the industry standard.

The company has continued to innovate and foster a culture of safety and excellence. Many employees have been part of the Equal-i-zer team for over 20 years, ensuring a deep commitment to producing the safest and highest-performing hitches on the market.

“Our hitch isn’t just built for towing—it’s engineered for trust. We keep customers safer on the road than any other trailer hitch, because their journey deserves nothing less,” said Rob Stratton, sales account manager at Progress Mfg. “While many hitches claim to match the Made-In-America quality of Equal-i-zer, the reality is that they fall short in sway control performance and durability.”

Why Equal-i-zer Continues to Win Gold:

  1. Unmatched Sway Control: The Equal-i-zer hitch features the best sway control on the market, providing unmatched stability and confidence while towing. Its integrated 4-Point Sway Control system actively resists trailer sway from wind, passing vehicles, and sudden maneuvers—without the need for add-on sway bars or dampers. Unlike chain-based hitches, Equal-i-zer’s rigid brackets and spring arms create friction at multiple points, working constantly to keep the trailer in line with the tow vehicle. This built-in design not only works to prevent sway before it starts but also makes driving smoother and safer in all conditions. With decades of proven performance and industry-leading engineering, the Equal-i-zer hitch offers the most reliable and effective sway control available today.
  2. American Craftsmanship & Durability: Manufactured with 100% American-made steel and rigorously tested for strength and durability, Equal-i-zer hitches are built to last and withstand the toughest towing conditions.
  3. Trusted Performance & Innovation: With nearly eight decades of experience, the company continues to refine and enhance its technology, ensuring customers receive the best towing experience possible.
  4. Best in Class Weight Distribution: The Equal-i-zer hitch provides the best weight distribution on the market by ensuring a smoother, safer towing experience. Its innovative design evenly distributes weight across all axles, improving steering, braking, and overall stability. Unlike traditional weight distribution hitches, Equal-i-zer’s integrated sway control works in harmony with its weight distribution system, reducing stress on the tow vehicle and trailer while preventing dangerous sway before it starts.
  5. Ease Of Use: The Equal-i-zer hitch is designed for ultimate ease of use, making setup and towing simpler and more efficient. Its streamlined design eliminates the need for separate sway control devices, meaning fewer parts to install and adjust. With easy-to-use brackets that allow quick hitching and unhitching, plus no need to disconnect sway control in tight turns or when backing up, the Equal-i-zer hitch saves time and effort.

“We’re incredibly grateful to our customers for once again voting Equal-i-zer as America’s Favorite Hitch,” said Rich Elliott, vice president of Sales and Marketing. “Your trust means everything to us. A huge thank you to our dealers, distributors, and our hardworking team for their dedication to building the safest, most reliable sway control hitch out there. We couldn’t do it without you!”

U of Michigan Profiles Alum Ferrando of Blue Compass

EDITOR’S NOTE: The following is an excerpt of a report by the University of Michigan Alumni Association. Click here to read the full report.

When Jon Ferrando, ’88, decided to rebrand the recreational vehicle dealership business he founded, he wanted to include nods back to his alma mater.

Blue Compass RV’s logo features a familiar maize and blue color scheme, and the compass on it points from the company’s headquarters in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, right back to Ann Arbor.

“It has a lot of meaning within our industry and the lifestyle but also signals some of my connection back to Michigan,” Ferrando says with a smile.

Much of Ferrando’s life and career points back toward Ann Arbor as well. He describes his time at U-M as “foundational,” where he developed leadership skills and a standard of excellence. It’s also where he met his wife Katy Ferrando, ’88. The two have three children — all three are Wolverines themselves — and two dogs who are aptly named Maizey and Blu.

“I think most students that go there have this incredible experience similar to me — this life-changing opportunity. And it just creates and breeds a lot of connection and loyalty back to the Block M,” he says.

Those around Ferrando say he infuses the Leaders and Best mentality in everything he does, including building Blue Compass RV from scratch in 2018 to a business that draws $3 billion in annual revenue with more than 100 stores across 33 states.
