Staffing Woes Seen at National Parks Ahead of Busy Season

FAIRFAX, Va. – Recent reports indicate that federal employee firings and hiring freezes are impacting the National Park Service (NPS) as the busy season approaches, according to a report on the RV Industry Association News and Insights page.

The Trump administration recently fired federal employees on probationary status, affecting thousands of staffers nationwide, including those at the Department of Interior, which oversees the NPS.

Congressional Democrats have warned Interior Secretary Doug Burgum that these combined impacts could further strip the park workforce ahead of the busy season. They are urging the administration to reconsider these decisions and take steps to ensure that national parks are adequately staffed to meet the needs of visitors and protect park resources.

  • It is important to note that this is an ongoing situation, and the full impacts of these decisions are not yet known.

The RV Industry Association, in coordination with our partners at the Outdoor Recreation Roundtable, are continuing to advocate with the Department of the Interior and Congress to make sure public land agencies have the resources they need to welcome RVers and outdoor enthusiasts.

Dyrt: Camping Cancellations, No-Shows Decreased in 2024

PORTLAND, Ore. – The Dyrt, the only camping app with all of the public and private campgrounds, RV parks and free camping locations in the United States, has found that 70.7% of campers say they used all their reservations in 2024, a significant increase from 58.9% in 2023. There was also a 16.7% decrease in cancellations and no-shows last year, according to a release.

These statistics are from the newly released 2025 Camping Report Presented by Toyota Trucks, the most comprehensive look at the latest trends, topics and figures for the U.S. camping industry. The latest version of The Dyrt’s annual report is compiled from the results of surveys conducted with three groups — thousands of members of The Dyrt camper community, a representative sample of U.S. residents, and camping property managers across all 50 states.

“I think there’s increasing awareness of the fact that it hurts other campers to reserve a campsite and leave it empty and the camping community is stepping up to do better,” The Dyrt founder Sarah Smith wrote in the report. “New legislation in California and Washington to incentivize advanced cancellation might be helping as well.”

The Dyrt measured multiple types of cancelations and no shows, which decreased across the board in 2024. The percentage of campers who canceled two-plus days ahead of time in 2024 was 25.8%, a decrease of 3.3% from 2023. And only 6.9% of campers canceled with less than two days notice in 2024, which is a decrease of 3.8% from 2023.

In 2023, 16.7% of campers left a campsite one or more days early, and that rate dropped to 12.8% in 2024. The percentage of campers who arrived one or more days late dipped slightly by a half-point to 3.7% in 2024.

“The fact that cancellations and no-shows went down significantly is very encouraging,” says The Dyrt CEO Kevin Long. “Obviously some situations arise for people where cancellations are inevitable and unavoidable, but the stark drop from one year to the next is a clear indication that campers are figuring out how to navigate a more competitive camping landscape with compassion. Fewer sites are going to waste, more campers are able to secure a spot, and property owners and managers have more predictability. It’s a positive for everybody.”

The percentage of campers who admitted to no-showing a reservation without canceling in 2024 was 4%, down from 5% in 2023. The report identified some parallels between income levels and campers who no-showed. Among campers who earned more than $250,000 per year, 5.8% no-showed in 2024. Campers who earned between $101,000 and $250,000 per year were more than twice as likely (4.4%) to no-show than campers with incomes under $50,000 (2.1%). Of campers who earned between $50,000-$100,000, 3.2% no-showed a reservation in 2024.

Campers Inn, Renogy Team to Grow Off-Grid Experiences

ONTARIO, Calif. – The increasing interest in off-grid camping, boondocking, and self-sufficient RV travel has steadily driven demand for high-quality solar and lithium power systems, according to Chris Bellomo of Campers Inn RV, according to a press release.

One result of this trend, as Bellomo explains, is that “Renogy has built a reputation for producing durable, high-performance solar panels, lithium batteries, and other off-grid power solutions. Renogy products undergo rigorous testing to withstand the demands of RV travel, ensuring customers receive dependable energy solutions for their adventures. Their ease of installation and long-term reliability make Renogy a trusted name in the industry—fully aligned with our mission to offer only the best for our customers.”

Bellomo’s perspective is strongly echoed by other Campers Inn dealerships, such as David, Parts Manager at Campers Inn RV of Louisville. He states, “Renogy’s collaboration with Campers Inn brings excellent value to both sides. Campers Inn RV has become a trusted resource for aftermarket installations of high-quality products with great margins. From simple add-ons like batteries or solar panels to full system installations, Renogy has provided unmatched support, helping us understand their products while also training our dealership teams and offering ongoing assistance.”

According to David, “Our collaboration with Renogy has helped the Louisville store stay at the forefront of solar solutions, rather than just chasing the wave.”

Bellomo adds that Campers Inn RV was motivated to introduce Renogy products in its dealerships based on customer feedback. “We continuously listen to our customers and adapt to their needs and RV lifestyles. Over the past few years, we’ve seen growing demand for solar and lithium power solutions as more RV owners seek self-sufficiency, extended off-grid adventures, and sustainable energy options.”

He continues, “When evaluating our options, Renogy stood out as a partner because of its proven reliability, innovation, and commitment to providing high-quality, user-friendly solar and lithium power solutions. From entry-level solar kits to full off-grid lithium battery systems, Renogy empowers users to confidently power their adventures anywhere they travel.”

Bellomo also highlights that “Renogy’s brand recognition, competitive pricing, and scalable systems make their products highly sellable at the retail level. We can confidently provide solutions that fit every RV and every customer’s needs.”

Summarizing Campers Inn RV’s relationship with Renogy, Bellomo states, “By adding Renogy to our product offerings, we’re not just selling solar panels or batteries—we’re helping our customers maximize their freedom on the road. Whether they are weekend campers, full-time RVers, or boondocking enthusiasts, Renogy provides our dealerships with the solutions needed to keep customers powered up, reducing reliance on traditional hookups and allowing them to enjoy the RV lifestyle on their own terms.”

Canada RV Dealers to Scrap Orders from U.S. Amid Tariffs?

Most dealers at this weekend’s RV Show in London plan to cancel all American-made orders if threatened tariffs proceed, according to a report at CTVNews.ca.

That represents more than two-thirds of all units manufactured for the Canadian market.

The primary reason for the pledge was the anticipated revolt of customers, including Justin Hagan.

“It’s definitely going to add increased to costs. You know 25 per cent on a trailer, that has already got 40 per cent added for exchange, that’s a big deal now,” stated the Courtright, Ontario resident.

It is enough for Andy Thomson, the owner of Can-Am RV near London, to go ahead with scrapping all U.S. orders if tariffs proceed. He did the same thing when the first tariff threat was issued earlier this month.

“Ourselves, we canceled $3 million in orders. Lots of dealers were similar,” he told CTV News London.

Don Ferguson, the owner of RV World in St. Thomas, made a similar move.
