Interior Dept. Announces $254 Million for Local Parks

WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Department of the Interior announced today the single largest grant investment ever from the Land and Water Conservation Fund’s Outdoor Recreation Legacy Partnership Program (ORLP). Through ORLP, the National Park Service (NPS) will invest $254.68 million into 54 projects in 24 states for the redevelopment or creation of new local parks.

The ORLP program advances President Biden’s America the Beautiful Initiative, a locally led, voluntary conservation and restoration effort that aims to address the nature and climate crises, improve equitable access to the outdoors, and strengthen the economy. Providing safe outdoor spaces for communities that are park-deprived is one of six areas of focus. The program also helps advance the Administration’s Justice40 Initiative that aims to have 40 percent of the benefits of federal funding flow to disadvantaged communities.

“Everyone deserves to experience the restorative power of nature, but increasing access to public outdoor spaces has not always received the investment and drive needed to make an impact. Supporting the communities that benefit from the Outdoor Recreation Legacy Partnership program has been a top priority for our Administration, and a critical step to bringing more green spaces to urban and disadvantaged communities” said Secretary Deb Haaland. “Today, this program makes history with the largest investment since its inception.”

“The enthusiasm for this program is wonderful, with the highest number of applications we’ve ever seen,” said Assistant Secretary for Fish and Wildlife and Parks Shannon Estenoz. “After traveling across the United States to increase awareness of the Outdoor Recreation Legacy Program, I’m thrilled to see so many cities receive grants for the first time.”

In August, Secretary Haaland and Assistant Secretary Estenoz toured ORLP projects underway in the Raleigh, North Carolina area. They visited Yeargan Park and Smoky Hollow Park, where investments from the program will construct new part infrastructure, upgrade trails, and expand play and picnic areas, cultivating community connection and outdoor access.

Today’s announcement follows a nationwide tour by Assistant Secretary Estenoz to hear directly from community members on the need to connect communities with access to the outdoors, and to encourage state participation in the ORLP program. This latest round of funding draws from the greatest number of applications received by the NPS in the program’s history.

“It’s great to see such an increase in community investment in the Outdoor Recreation Legacy Partnership program,” said NPS Director Chuck Sams. “This investment into these 54 locally led projects is a prime example of the vital work the National Park Service is doing to improve access to the outdoors in your community and beyond national park borders.”

The ORLP program, established in 2014, is a nationally competitive, dollar-for-dollar matching grant program that aids disadvantaged, urban communities that lack access to close-by outdoor recreation. The program provides grants for community sponsored park projects where population is greater that 30,000 residents. Managed by the NPS and funded through the LWCF, the program provides matching grants up to 50% of total project costs.

RVIA Urges Congress to Act on De Minimis Loophole

FAIRFAX, Va. – The RV Industry Association (RVIA) has taken a significant step in advocating for the protection of American manufacturing by urging Congress to take action on the harmful effects of the de minimis provision in U.S. trade laws, according to a News and Insights article on the RVIA website.

On Sept. 25, Jason Rano, the RVIA vice president of government affairs, sent a letter to key leaders in Congress and the White House, calling for swift reforms that would close loopholes exploited by foreign companies – primarily from China.

  • The letter was addressed to Chairmen Ron Wyden and Jason Smith of the Senate Finance and House Ways and Means Committees, as well as Ranking Members Mike Crapo and Richard Neal.

The letter highlighted the disproportionate advantage Chinese companies currently enjoy under Section 321 of the de minimis entry law, which allows them to flood the U.S. market with low-quality, underpriced products while bypassing tariffs, intellectual property rights enforcement, and safety standards.

The RV industry, which contributes $140 billion to the U.S. economy and employs nearly 700,000 Americans, has been particularly affected – especially in the aftermarket sector.

  • Rano noted that while Congress introduced the de minimis law with good intentions, its unintended consequences are threatening the future of the American RV aftermarket and other industries that form part of the $1 trillion outdoor recreation economy.

The RVIA is committed to collaborating with lawmakers to enact reforms that will restore fair competition and protect American jobs. With Congress currently considering multiple bills addressing de minimis abuses, the RV Industry Association is advocating for urgent action before the end of the year.

Prevost Owners Mark 100th Anniversary at Quebec Rally

SAINTE-CLAIRE, Quebec – In mid-September, Prevost motorhome owners from far and wide arrived in Quebec City to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Prevost during a weeklong homecoming rally.

For many, it was an event they wouldn’t dream of missing since it was an opportunity to connect with old friends and make new ones.

“When you’re in the RV world, everybody’s friends. The group of us that are Prevost owners have a special connection above and beyond the connection that we all have living in RVs,” said Brian Addotta, who owns a Liberty Coach.

To help owners enjoy life on the road together, Prevost and its conversion partners support a variety of clubs, including the Prevost Motorcoach Club, Marathon Coach Club, Bus ‘N Bikers, Road Hogs and Jewell’s Club.

Rick Smith, president of Road Hogs, and his wife, Lesley, assembled a convoy of Prevost motorcoaches to attend the Prevost celebration. The group hit several sites on their way to Quebec, including Sturgis and Yellowstone National Park, as well Montreal, Sault Ste. Marie and Niagara Falls in Canada. After the rally, they planned to visit Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island before heading back to the United States.

Dozens of motorhomes and display coaches were part of the 100th anniversary rally from featured converters Liberty Coach, Marathon Coach, Millennium Luxury Coaches, Featherlite Coaches and Emerald Luxury Coaches.

“It was amazing to see 160+ Prevost coaches from all different eras and conversions come together at their birthplace to celebrate Prevost 100 in Quebec City. It was equally unique to see the various clubs representing one common thing…Prevost. We were honored to represent Prevost Motorcoach Club, as well as Road Hogs, during the event. Trading stories with fellow owners as well as adding some new members to both clubs,” said Tom Klause from Prevost Motorcoach Club.

Photo caption: Prevost motorhome rally attendees enjoyed a 1920s-themed dinner and admired motorhome coaches on display from Prevost’s premier converter partners.

For nearly a week, rally attendees were immersed in the history of Prevost, Quebec City and Sainte-Claire – where the company was founded and is still located to this day. The itinerary included a Prevost factory visit, converter display coaches, historic Quebec tours, shopping excursions, motorcycle rides, golf outings, live entertainment and, of course, lots of time with friends.

“Being able to meet the Prévost family members and seeing four generations of family, working to restore the very first 1924 coach built by Eugène, the founder of Prevost, was beyond words. You just had to be there,” said Ed Cheeney, president of Marathon Coach Club International. “I know I speak for all of our members when I say that this was a once in a lifetime event and proved to be a spectacular gathering for all the events that were planned and meeting friends and making new friends.”

Since January, Prevost has chronicled its 100th anniversary on its website – Prevostcar.com– and on FacebookLinkedInInstagramYouTube and X. Through videos, images, stories and recollections, the company has captured the history and future of Prevost.

“It was incredible seeing the beautiful Prevost motorcoaches and their owners come together to celebrate what Eugène Prévost started in 1924,” said Prevost and Volvo Group Canada President François Tremblay. “I heard so many stories of friendships that span decades and unforgettable adventures Prevost owners have been on together.”

Rangeland RV Expands Operations at Red Deer Location

ROCKY VIEW, Alb. – Rangeland RV & Trailer Sales is a leading dealership in Western Canada, with numerous awards and recognitions that span two decades. As the largest Forest River dealer in the country – equipped with the most robust new service and parts center in Alberta – dealer principal Dania Filippetto is focused on laying the groundwork for additional growth.

The businesswoman purchased land in Red Deer, Alb., two years ago, with plans to construct a brand-new facility akin to the company’s RockyView location.

“I have been in the Red Deer market since 2017, but always renting. The location did not have the right size shop for us, along with [operating in] an older building,” she said, expressing interest in duplicating their proven business model and culture at a modern facility that is owned instead of leased.

In spring 2023, Filippetto kickstarted a $7 million project at the Red Deer location. The standalone, precast construction is situated on five acres and features 16,800 square-feet. With high ceilings, oversized windows and scenic views of the property, she pointed to the grand showroom as a crown jewel of the project. A large mezzanine, with five additional vacant offices and a board room, overlooks the area and a large parts department.

The new facility also features roll-down power, water and airline supplies in the shop area of all eight bays, increasing efficiencies across the board.

“Now we have many more bays to complete work in a more-timely fashion,” Filippetto said. “In addition, we designed a comfortable lounge area for our customers, which includes a sit-up, bar-style area that has built-in network stations for clients to use while they are waiting for their same-day service appointments to be completed.”

A freshly-paved yard offers a welcoming first impression, while the expanded delivery row provides plenty of room to plug-in every RV, complete a proper walk-through and conduct orientations with customers.

As a result of the expanded footprint, the company hired three additional technicians and increased headcount in the parts department. Filippetto noted the spacious showroom can accommodate more sales staff, as needed.

“This new Red Deer [facility] allows us to align ourselves with the same values as our RockyView location, especially when it comes to the customer experience. [Now], we are able to be even better at providing the best customer service possible with the newest technology, plus ease of selling and servicing RV’s,” Filippetto said.

Recently, Rangeland RV hosted an exclusive grand opening event at the state-of-the-art facility. Filippetto was pleased with the turnout, noting more than 160 guests attended to honor the company’s bold steps in business development.

For Rangeland RV, the spacious showroom served as a picturesque backdrop to the catered affair, providing ample space for business partners and staff to co-mingle with family and friends, while enjoying a five-piece band, sipn’away mobile bar trailer, signature cocktails, as well as cake and ribbon cutting.

“As an exclusive Forest River dealer, everyone’s attendance was a huge support to us on a very important day. This project was a long time coming,” Filippetto said, emphasizing key partnerships allow Rangeland RV to capitalize on such opportunities to best serve shared customers.

Looking ahead, the dealer principal said Rangeland RV is busy finalizing an additional six-acre expansion at the RockyView location. The project, she said, will provide expanded retail RV storage, plus easy in-and-out and sewer dump access to better serve customers.
