AAA: Electricity Remains Parked While Pump Prices Dip

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The national average for a gallon of gas hit $3.44, falling by just a penny since last week. Meanwhile, the national and state averages for L2 commercial electricity remained the same as the previous two weeks, according to the American Automobile Association (AAA).

“Summer is wrapping up soon, and so far, gas prices have barely wobbled,” said An-drew Gross, AAA spokesperson. “But we still have a long way to go with hurricane season, so it’s too soon to declare that pump prices have started their usual Autumn swoon.”

With an estimated 1.2 million AAA members living in households with one or more electric vehicles, AAA lists the kilowatt-per-hour cost for Level 2 (L2) commercial charging by state.

Today’s national average for a kilowatt of electricity at an L2 commercial charging station is 34 cents.

According to new data from the Energy Information Administration (EIA), gas demand edged higher last week from 8.96 million b/d to 9.04. Meanwhile, total domestic gasoline stocks fell from 225.1 to 222.2 million barrels. Gasoline production decreased slightly last week, averaging 9.7 million barrels per day. Tepid gasoline demand and stable oil costs may cause pump prices to slide further.

Today’s national average for a gallon of gas is $3.44, eight cents less than a month ago and 42 cents less than a year ago.

Oil Market Dynamics

At the close of Wednesday’s formal trading session, WTI fell by $1.37 to settle at $76.98 a barrel. The EIA reports that crude oil inventories increased by 1.4 million barrels from the previous week. At 430.7 million barrels, U.S. crude oil inventories are about 5% below the five-year average for this time of year.

‘RV Today’ Magazine Features Campervans, TPMS, Spacecraft

EDITOR’S NOTE: The Summer 2024 issue of RV Today magazine is now available. Here’s the Publisher’s Note from Demian Ross.

Summer is almost over and what a great summer it’s been for us here at RV Today.

My dad used to say, “If you are not growing, you’re dying.” That has always stuck with me. RV Today is growing with every issue. You’ll see it in not only our new logo, but also in the addition of new ad partners, subscribers, and our page count. The last issue and this issue are now 100 pages packed full of helpful information for the current RV owner and the soon-to-be RV owner. Our goal is to include enough ad partners and content to grow to 132 pages.

One thing we aim for with RV Today is to give people a place to read about the RV lifestyle without relying on social media. Believe it or not, many people do not use or engage with social or digital media, especially in the RV life. RVing allows us all to disconnect from devices, sit back in a hammock or camping chair, crack open a book or magazine, and enjoy the outdoors.

On a recent vacation, I was shocked at how many people had devices in their faces rather than being in the moment. Being in nature and being with family, they would rather watch a TikTok of someone dancing. Okay, now I am starting to sound a little boomer-ish, but I am very pro-analog. This is an analog lifestyle; there is no virtual camping app that will ever replace experiencing it for yourself.

RV Today will continue to grow and provide an experience that doesn’t require you to be connected to the Internet. We want you to unplug and go off the digital grid, and enjoy the great outdoors. It doesn’t matter if you are by yourself, or with family and friends.

We are so lucky to live in a country that allows us to travel freely and even live on the road, with some amazing campgrounds and businesses that will host you and your RV and also amazing places where you can boondock or dry camp out in the middle of nowhere and be alone with nature.

Demian Ross

I am a champion (not an influencer) for this lifestyle and will continue to expose as many people as I can to RVing and exploring this great country.

I would love to hear from you about the amazing experiences you had this summer. You can email me at [email protected] or even go old school and send me a letter/postcard at PO Box 437, Jennings, OK, 74038.

Have a great rest of your summer and I hope to meet you on the road someday.

– Demian Ross

Texas RV Association Hosting 50th Anniversary Convention

SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The Texas Recreational Vehicle Association (TRVA) is set to launch its 50th Anniversary Convention this weekend, Aug. 16-19, at San Antonio’s La Cantera Resort & Spa. Dealers from across the state will gather to celebrate this milestone event along with representatives from finance, insurance, supply, service & repair, and manufacturing who support the industry throughout the state.

Twenty-two dealer groups are planning to participate this weekend, and they operate ninety-five dealerships in the State of Texas. In 2023, these dealers were responsible for registering $1.582 billion in new, used, and consignment recreational vehicles in the state. That figure represents 56% of the total registrations made to Texas residents during 2023. Add in the service/repair and parts business these companies represent and anyone can see the potential in who will be gathered for a long weekend in San Antonio.

Significant changes have swept over the state since 1974 when most dealerships were owned by families who were venturing into unchartered territory by engaging in their own independent business. Today, much of the RV industry in Texas is controlled by multi-location dealerships, many of which are owned by large corporations. However,  independently owned dealerships continue to serve their niche markets across the state as the sole proprietorship has certainly not gone away in this vast state.

Born as an outgrowth of the Texas Manufactured Housing Association (TMHA) in 1974, RV dealers grew restless being simply a committee within TMHA, so they pooled their resources, drafted bylaws, filed the necessary paperwork, and chartered their new

nonprofit trade association. From those somewhat humble beginnings, the industry has grown to represent perhaps the most prosperous environment for RV business in the U.S.

Ron Hoelzer, Lloyd’s Trailer Sales, Orange, Texas, was elected the association’s first president and he remained active in the industry until 2022 when he sold his dealership and retired. Mr. Hoelzer is very much in touch with the association today.

“…We were just a bunch of independent-minded son-of-a-guns who wanted to chart our own destiny, and I was either unlucky enough to serve as the first president or it was a blessing, and in the long run it was certainly a blessing…” Hoelzer commented recently.

Serving in the association’s current volunteer leadership role is President Steve Spearing, Crestview RV Superstore, Selma, Texas. Spearing leads the TRVA Board of Directors which represents all segments of the RV industry in the state. Spearing’s roots run deep in the industry for as a teenager his father decided to stop selling firewood from the front yard of his Oklahoma home when he became general manager of Tulsa Camper Sales.

Spearing has said, “…those were good days for my twin brother and me even though chopping and stacking wood for my father wasn’t all that much fun. We found working around the RV dealership in 1971 was more enjoyable and here I am all these years later still engrained in the RV business…”

The convention will feature seminars from different perspectives of the industry including updates from RVDA, RVIA, safety practices, training, marketing, RECT, and panel discussions, among those of interest. Perhaps tops on dealers’ lists will be presentations by the Executive Director of the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles Daniel Avitia, and Texas Office of Consumer Credit Commissioner Senior Financial Examiner Eric Fincher. Mr. Avitia heads the 800-employee state agency that licenses and regulates the RV industry. The OCCC regulates the financing of RVs in the state and Mr. Fincher represents those professionals who audit dealers every four years.

There will be ample networking and social time for attendees with two evening receptions, a golf tournament, a skeet shooting event, a business casual President’s Dinner, a three-night hospitality suite, an annual dealer-only meeting, and all culminating in the Annual Membership Meeting which closes out the convention. The President’s Dinner will feature a salute to the association’s 50-year history and to the past presidents who have led the organization for five decades.

Vendors to the industry continue to graciously contribute funds as sponsors of the annual convention for without such underwriting the event would be difficult to produce. TRVA’s Executive Director Phil Elam commented, “…our sponsors are important to the viability of the convention and although there are too many to list in this press release, they will all be suitably thanked during our convention and have been mentioned in email blasts to the industry in the promotion of the convention on numerous occasions…”
