On Tuesday, the Franklin County Board of Supervisors approved a special use permit requested by South Lake Motor Sports, LLC that will allow a campground containing 14 cabins and 28 RV sites on Old Salem School Road. The campground will be located on a roughly 14-acre parcel that is zoned A-1 Agricultural District and B-2 General Business District. Source

According to the National Park Service release, plans for the new facility at Rymers Access was canceled due to the inability to get heavy equipment transported to the site. The vault toilet was then shifted to the Powder Mill Campground to replace the waterborne (flush) restroom that is no longer operational after the April 2017 flood. Source

After considering additional conditions and legal issues at its Feb. 19 meeting, the Board of Supervisors voted 5-1-1 to approve a special-use permit for the proposed campground and RV park off Old Salem School Road in the Union Hall district. Source
