State Champion tree discovered in Md.’s Gunpowder Falls

(Feb. 17, 2012) -- Dan Wilson, a volunteer with the Maryland Big Tree Program, recently discovered a massive sweet birch, or Betula lenta, hidden deep within the Harford County portion of Gunpowder Falls State Park. According to American Forests this is the tallest tree of its species on record, with a total point value of 247.
