(Jan. 23, 2012) -- The Knoxville News Sentinel reports that a last-minute surge in visitation enabled Great Smoky Mountains National Park to squeak past the nine million visitors mark for 2011. Up until December, the park was on track to drop below nine million for the first time since 2003.
